Camera Basics is a six course designed to teach students how to use a camera as a communication and storytelling tool.  3rd-5th grade students will engage in a hands-on experience producing a series of projects that reinforce the skills and techniques used in contemporary digital filmmaking.

Each week the students will be presented with a project that challenges them to think about how they use the camera  to communicate ideas and stories through images.

Camera Basics Projects Include:

  1. The Story-Board Project
  2. Stop-Motion Animation
  3. The Jump Cut Project
  4. The New Perspective
  5. The Reveal

Students will produce all of their video projects in collaboration with a partner. Students will also gain experience working with a variety of film equipment including but not limited to cameras, lights, and microphones.

All students will be editing on Mac Book Pro computers and using iMovie or Final Cut Pro X, which are provided by the Film Academy.  Upon request, students may also receive a free WeVideo account, use the editing platform, and have access to their footage from home.

Completion of all projects is time permitting.
